MOTOROLA Certified Comcast BrightHouse Wireless
My Old Neighbor iceflow say NEW......it ain't.
Go to somewhere like Best Buy and get a modem shrink wrapped and new. This one was sold as a NEW item but in fact was already hooked into an account on XFINITY. It clearly is not new. It works, but that is not the point. If an item is described on any web site as new, then new it should be. Hook up time with this modem was hours as XFinity support had to cancel whomever's account this modem was connected to. I purchased a shiny NEW Netgear modem this morning from Best Buy and all is connected and good. It would appear I'm not the only punter affected by this type of issue. Should have done more research and will be very wary buying electronics from Amazon going forward.
My Old Fellow Rob said Working Great for Me (Comcast Customer).
Bought this used like-new and it works perfectly. I have comcast and was NOT going to pay those bas*****, nice people a monthly rental fee. If you go on their site they show you compatible modems and its only the super expensive ones that show up but if you scroll down you'll see all the other ones they are compatible with. Same goes if you use their business website you can see all the other modems that work with their service. A lot of the more expensive modems are for really fast internet speeds that will be unnessecary for the vast majority of consumers. This can do 300mbps... my internet is the basic package so we get 25mbps which it handles no problem.
Do yourself a favor and get a router separate for two reasons: 1) I found it to be much cheaper than any two-in-one modem-router combo 2) if you move or change service providers you wont have to buy another expensive combo but instead can just replace your modem
My friend Oni said I work for their competition and installed with better wiring and hardware than concast would have used with ....
To anyone who says that the equipment doesnt make a difference I offer this review as proof that it does.
The speed that I am subscribed to from Concast is 105mbps
my install was done professionally by me, I work for their competition and installed with better wiring and hardware than concast would have used
with my previous Arris 6121 I averaged 125mbps download
with this Motorola 7220 I am now getting 170mbps download
Yes, both are delivering my subscribed speed and then some but one is quite obviously working better than the other
My Fellow Debbie experience UNHEALTHY MODEM? (Update: Satisfied with it now).
I am really sorry to write this review. But I have to agree with the one and only reviewer that complained about the odor of this modem. As soon as I opened up the box, I smelled that circuitry/plastic burning smell... just as the reviewer did. And I too hoped it would fade. After two weeks of use… it has faded… some. But the odor is still there. If the odor was the only problem, I wouldn’t be writing this review. Because it probably would dissipate after some time. But I have noticed my throat feels weird and my mom has been coughing lately. Which makes me worry about the quality of our air with this thing.
At first glance, the modem is just what I wanted. It is much smaller than my Optimum modem and it is working perfectly. Because of that I added one star. But worrying about my health and that of loved ones, just by using this modem, has me preparing it for its return to the Amazon warehouse. I really wonder if this modem isn’t the same as the one my fellow reviewer complained about and returned. I haven’t found anyone else mentioning the odor. So either their noses aren’t noticing it, or this is a fluke.
UPDATE:
Well, it's been a few more weeks and the odor has lessened greatly. It's working perfectly. Hopefully it will continue. Now that the smell is significantly less, I can't complain about the modem at all. I love that I can turn it off when it's not in use. My old one from my cable company didn't have that option. And my internet is working just fine.
Thank you to the Motorola Customer Service Rep who responded to my review. All seems fine now. So I am upping my rating to 3 stars. In all fairness, it could have been a five star rating if it wasn't for the air quality issue that happened at the start.
My Old Fellow Sam Jones tell us Used and "still registered to an account holder".
The modem is advertised as "new" and that's what I thought I paid for, until internet provider Xfinity Comcast confirmed the modem is NOT new at all, but rather used. And in fact "registered to a different account holder", and therefore wont allow me to use or activate it. .. Seriously? When I contacted the seller they told me to prove it! I took the proof I received from the internet provider and took it straight to the appropriate parties to ensure NetBetShop doesn't continue to scam innocent customers. False advertising is ILLEGAL!
My Old Man Sherman Robinson experience Works for me on Comcast/Xfinity!.
I finally got tired of seeing that $11 monthly modem rental fee on my Xfinity bill so after crunching the numbers, it just made sense to grab my own modem. Grabbed this modem, and after an online activation with Comcast, voila! Works well. Ran a few speed tests thru the Speedtest.net app & didn't lose an ounce of speed!
Since this is ONLY a modem with no WiFi capabilities, I grabbed a MediaLink AC1200R router and the two make a dynamic duo! Internet connects smoothly and effortlessly with all my devices.
My Fellow iDude experience Replaced dead SB6141.
When my trusty Motorola Arris SB6141 subtly died the other day after several years of service I looked for an inexpensive replacement and decided on the MB7220. This is one of the modems supported by Comcast (the SB6141 is no longer supported).
Say what you will about Comcast but personally I've never had service issues with them in 10+ years. I was even more impressed by the changes they made to their online tools that let customers register their own devices without having to go through the pain of customer service calls. It literally took me 5 minutes to install, register and activate the new modem using the online portal.
Testing the MB7220 yielded 70Mbps down and 6Mbps up. I think I'm paying for a 50Mbps service, so that's not bad at all.
Bottom line: if you need to replace your Comcast cable modem, this one seems to be a good pick. It doesn't have as many channels as more expensive ones but that simply means it won't be capable of pulling more than 300Mbps or so, which realistically won't happen anyway unless you pay for that type of service. For a little over $50 this one's a steal.
My friend badatnames tell us Stop renting a cable modem.
I purchased this to replace my SB5100 that was no longer supported by Comcast. If you can it’s completely worth your time to just outright buy a cable modem as opposed to renting it. I’ve had no problems with it and with the self provisioning software that Comcast uses I didn’t even have to call in. Buy this used, there’s no point in getting it new unless you really want to. Cable modem tech changes slowly over time so you’ll probably replace it in 5+ years which pays for itself when you are no longer making an additional +$12 a month modem rental fee.
My Old Neighbor Tidus said Buy this Modem and Send the Carrier's Back. This is quality, Comcast's is junk!.
I have Comcast. The units they provide suck, they are old and unreliable. A friend recommended this item to me and I was skeptical at first. The setup took only a minute or two and I was up and running faster than ever before.
My Fellow Dan tell us Great modem, despite Time Warner.
Time Warner fought me to try and stop me installing this modem. Trying to get them to register it was like pulling teeth - without anesthesia. Basically they insisted it wasn't on their approved list - even though I could point them at their own website that said it was. The Motorola documentation told me that might be the case. It doesn't say it this way, but there's a paragraph in the manual that basically says - if your cable company claims this device is not approved, they're probably lying. And they are right! Once I convinced them to register the modem, it worked flawlessly. My download speed should be 30Mbps, and the modem typically exceeds that. Time Warner really doesn't like you buying your own modem - in fact, according to the person I spoke to, there is no longer a reduction in the monthly charge for the Time Warner modem (that I returned) because - well, I guess because they can do what the heck they like, being a government-approved monopoly. Even though it isn't saving me any money, I'm glad to have my own modem instead of using theirs.
