My Old Fellow J D say Buy the SB6183 instead of this model.

i am going to repeat what another buyer said.. I am replacing this with the SB6183. I had the same exact problem as the other buyer posted exactly0 I am past my return date also so I am out $100.

Do not buy this modem. This modem is running on a flawed Puma chipset and is plagued by continued disconnects. 8 of 10 times it recovers after 30-60 seconds, the other 2 you will have to bounce the modem. I did quite a bit of troubleshooting, first thinking this was my wifi router, then going after my ISP. but the issues turned to be due to this faulty modem. I'm unfortunately now outside of the return window, so I'm stuck with a $100 paper weight, as I'm buying a different modem to replace it. Why is this still being sold is beyond me.

My Old Man Jared S. said DO NOT BUY, Intel Puma 6 Chipset Flawed.

I have had the unit since August 2018, I was on firmware 9.1.93N and was having latency issues after i changed to the faster speeds 3 months ago (250Mbps from 100Mbps). I called Arris and told them my issues and they stated it was my ISP causing issues and that they need to fix it. I then called my ISP and had a tech come out 3 times every few weeks to check why im still having issues and after many 48 hour ping tests the ISP said it was not on their end and could be the router causing the issue. I called my ISP to have the Firmware upgraded to the latest (9.1.103CM) and was told that would hopefully fix the issues. Well it didn't. I have changed my Router and Wireless Access Point to Ubiquiti (Enterprise Grade) system and know that it is not causing the issue. Called Arris again and let them know I changed out the Router and still having the issue. They told me that the ISP is still to blame and I need to have a tech out there to fix the SNR's and check the Event logs and he will know how to fix the issues. Had a tech come out and spend over an hour seeing the issue and showed me the ping test they had done less than a day ago and it shows no issues on their end. Called Arris March 3rd 2019 to let them know that the modem is bad and there options were, 1) be without a modem and ship mine to the facility and wait for them to get it and then ship me out a new one or 2) Pay $15-50 for shipping and hold $100 on my credit card until I send my old one back. What a joke for a product that doesn't work and now I have to pay to not have my internet down for at least 7-10 days. Worst business practice. Why should I be out paying for shipping when I did not do anything to mess up the device. I even asked to pay the difference to upgrade to one without the puma 6 chipset (SB8200) and they said they don't do that. I was willing to spend more money with this company to help fix the problems I am having. I just was to be able to be gaming online without the issues for latency spikes. I will update this after I get the new modem and provision it to my network.

My Buddy Amazon Customer say Arris product support is fantastic..

When the modem we had started acting up and was deemed no longer approved for use with timewarner/spectrum, i ordered this Arris product. When the order arrived on Sunday I immediately set it up and called for TWC to connect the modem, they could not make it connect, including being connected to a higher tier "tech". In the packaging was a notice from Arris to not return the modem, but call them. I did. Sunday afternoon when most offices are closed, the tech at Arris confirmed the modem was fine the connection was not. I cannot say enough about Arris customer support. If your Arris product does not work, call the number on top notice in the packing first. While TimeWarner/Spectrum could not fix it and had to schedule a visit from a tech 24 hours later who made a call and added the modem to the account which was not done. Bad marks for TimeWaner/Spectrum, Great marks for Arris.

My Fellow Dallas Electronics Fan experience Spectrum + SB6190 + 10% Amazon purchase discount? Perfect..

This replaces an SB6121 which has been up and running since late June 2013. During that time, no issues whatsoever. I only replaced it after learning that the service level I have was too much for the SB6121. The SB6121 is an older model and incapable of fully exploiting the 200mbps service I have. The SB6121 peaks at about 125Mbps down.

Shame on me for being unaware that Spectrum has been slowly ramping up their down speed over a period of time and being unaware that I was paying for a service my modem no longer could support. On the flip side, nowhere in Spectrum's website do they clearly publish up and down speeds. At least not that I can find. Maybe buried in the fine print. You will have to call them to find out. Even when I log into my account I can't find published service levels. Spectrum is cagey about publishing numbers it seems.

After installing this and running a few speed tests, I'm now seeing peak and very consistent download speeds of 200Mbps - 230Mbps. No change in the upload speed which Spectrum (not this modem) locks at around 10-15 Mbps.

Swapping the 6121 for the 6190 was easy. Make note of your mac address which is on the box and the modem. Stage the modem where you want it, plug in the power supply and then have the coaxial, ethernet and power cables ready to connect to the modem. Once everything is staged, call Spectrum. They will walk you through the set up whhich im my case took only about 5 minutes. No more than ten minutes total after they pick up the phone.

If you're using a generic ethernet cable to connect the modem to a router or directly to a computer, replacing it with a new cat6 or cat7 cable wouldn't hurt and will be inexpensive.

The SB6190 peaks at 1.4Gbps (advertised) so if your service provides more than this, this is not the modem for you. For the rest of us, terrific modem.

It runs warm but so did the SB6121 this replaces. Time will tell if I get the same long term reliability I did with the SB6121. I'll update if there are issues. In the meantime, happy customer.

My Buddy ron radar say Happy with product ..

Unbelievable....I ordered this about Midnight last night , Went to the flea market for the day and and when I got home my new modem was waiting on my front step to the house ! LESS than 16 hours after ordering ! Things you need to do if you're replacing a comcast ( Xfinity ) modem...Open the box and write down the name , model number and MAC number then hook it up and call comcast as they HAVE to reset their code on your account and reset so that your new modem will work for you [ this modem is NOT plug and play , you must call comcast to activate and use it . ] Everything using WiFi in my home is working faster and smother , it really reduced the lag times when switching over to other programs , no jitters or tiling when streaming ....I'm VERY happy on different levels with this product ---It works better and that's $13.00 less I have to pay those soul sucking thieves every month !!!....And thank-you Amazon for the super fast delivery .....

My Old Neighbor mtt Talk Actually get the speeds you pay for.

This is for (32x8) Docsis 3.0 model since amazon tends to aggregate reviews and makes it impossible to tell which are for what.

Note: it goes without saying that if you pay for xfinity phone service, you wont be able to use this since it will remove the telephony port, but at that point just get a magicjack device or something and save money that way.

I installed about 4 of these so far from my friends and neighbors complaining their xfinity modem box (docsis 3.1 version) keeps cutting out and they arent getting the speeds they pay for. This streamlines the data connection so the box basically has one purpose (pass the internet signal to a router), and isnt overloaded with multiple processes and functions like comcasts box.

You do need a external router but that and this will basically pay for itself within a year of how much you saved on leasing the router from comcast themselves.
--------------------
The only advice I have for people contemplating this who have not done so before are this:
-Reduce coaxial splits. The only time its acceptable is when you split off the main line to the tv box if you pay for otherwise you will want the most direct coaxial line input to this box as possible. Last house I installed had multiple splitters for no reason to unused connections which really caused signal loss.

-Check the speeds you need. Unless you are explicitly paying for gigabit 1000+mbps then you will need a docsis 3.1 modem but anything under you are fine with the 32x8 version (more channels to work with). I pay for 300mb internet and this is perfect and I dont see myself getting gigabit internet since none of your devices can actually support it especially if you use wifi lol.

-Get a good router, dont take ethernet connections for granted but also dont get baited for router speeds which say up to etc etc hypothetical speeds. They are taking the total sum of multiple 2.4ghz and 5ghz signals to give you a unrealistic speed you will never achieve. The router situation is another story but look into something decent at least. It will definitly be better than comcasts modem box and will probably come with better security features. NOTE: avoid routers with antivirus protection or voice assistant/alexa/google/siri functionality. Both of these features add in 3rd party software which collects data on your entire network and is a security concern especially on the router dhcp level..

-Buy new. Dont get these used since you will almost always have activation issues and such. This goes for any modem by any company anywhere.

-Dont believe advertisements, speeds you will actually achieve are based on a number of things. First and foremost is how much you are paying for. If you pay comcast for 200mb you will get up to 200mb (roughly 25 megabytes). This speed is only really obtained by ethernet connections which then rely on making sure your end devices ethernet port is a gigabit port and so on. Just like how wifi is determined speeds are determined by hardware and also distance. Moral of this story is dont by for things you will never use. 32x8 docsis 3.0 version of this router caps at whatever hypothetical speeds they say and thats more than enough for really anyone at this point.

My Old Neighbor kf94 said Do not buy the SB6190.

I want to chime in and agree with other reviewers: do not but the SB6190! I purchased the SB6190 a little over a year ago and have just purchased an SB6183 to replace my dead unit.

The SB6190 worked without issue for about 13 months, and I experienced no downtime during this period. The modem was in a ventilated utility closed in my house and was wall mounted with more than enough airflow. Within the past month, my internet began acting up and dropping all the time. Somehow, my 150Mbps connection was unable to stream a 360p video to my Chromecast and it became common for the connection to timeout frequently, though always reconnecting after a few minutes.

It took several hours with Xfinity's customer support to trace the issue back to the modem. Since the modem was able to connect and respond to Xfinity's signals, we were under the impression that the issue had to do with Comcast's line, and spent quite a bit of time getting service appointments setup to ensure the Comcast connection wasn't the problem. Only after they brought in an advanced support specialist did it become known that the modem was the culprit. Hours wasted.

I did some research and have found many complaints about the SB6190- it is a flawed unit and the Puma chipset is the source of the issues. It is not an issue of "if" the unit will fail, but "when" the unit will fail. I have no idea why Arris would continue to ship a defective unit with all of the negative reviews on the web.

I also think it is a bit dubious that the SB6190 is listed on the same page as several different models. When I purchased the SB6190, I saw a strong Amazon rating and assumed that the rating was for the model I was purchasing, not a suite of models. Reading through the review page, it is apparent that many issues are had with the SB6190. Since I purchased this unit 13 months ago, I am unable to claim the 1-year warranty and have purchased a cheaper and much better rated SB6183. Very disappointing, and I hope that my new SB6183 is more reliable.

My Fellow John Talk Very buggy, about to be outdated by DOCSIS 3.1, bad chipset.

Got a 400mbps new high speed plan from spectrum, this said when I purchased it was compatable with cable broadband high speed plans and with charter and Xfinity, cox it's rated for like 1.4gbps download but for spectrum it changed to maximum of 400mbps. After reading reviews it seems people were having issues where it randomly cuts off and back on, connection wise but the lights stay same and show everything is good. Only been a couple months and I see it getting worse. I work in IT so I am familiar with troubleshooting networks and if it was new maybe 35-40$ I would buy it for a spare and keep it in the box, maybe, but it's simply at the end of it's lifespan as far as upgradability. Don't purchase renewed as I hear often they are attached to someone else's ISP and can't activate them. Not the worst modem I've seen but runs hot and just its time is over!

My Buddy David Oosterhouse say Same problems as many others..

Was looking to update by SB6120. I was able to download at speeds up to 140 Mbps with my SB6120. The SB6120 is no longer supported and it was also time to update my WiFi router. It wasn't until after I purchased the SB6190 that I read about problems with the Puma 6 chipset. Installation was relatively easy. I was never able to achieve download speeds better than half of what I could achieve with the SB6120. I checked the online support information. Followed the recommendations and checked signal levels, everything looked good. Reconnected my SB6120, immediately back to 140 Mbps download speeds. Returned within less than a week. Ordered a SB6183 as a replacement. Hopefully it will work better.

My Buddy rod2625 said Easy installation, performs as advertised!.

Took advantage of a Xfinity offer of 500Mb (replaced 60Mb) service. I have been using a TP-Link 7610 (8x4, 343Mb) modem since 2016. New modem is the Arris SB6190 (32x8, 1.4Gb). Fairly recently upgraded Wi-Fi extender to TP-Link-AC450 and my router, TP-Link AC2300. After installing the new modem testing from my TP app indicated speeds of 582Mb downloads from the internet. Speedtest from my new Mac Mini showed in the range of 250Mb. Although plenty fast I was puzzled as to why the difference since the router, modem and Mac are within 5 feet of each other. Checked out my cables and realized I was using older cat 5 cables. Swapped out both cables to 5e, rebooted everything and pleasantly surprised my Mac now is getting in the range of 450Mb. This increase of speed is reflected to a lesser degree in my Wi-Fi connections. We use 5Ghz extensively for a couple of 4k TVs, Rokus, Tablo OTA receiver, etc. along with an assortment of iPhones and iPad's, for a total of 17 Wi-Fi devices. Very pleased with the Arris so far. Easy to install, nice form factor, leds indicate status, easy login for additional info, and 2 year warranty. Highly recommend it.
