My Old Fellow Vidman experience Purchased due to Comcast price increase.

Purchased the Arris SBG10 due to Comcast internet service price increase along with their modem lease increase. I selected the Arris SBG10 because the modem from Comcast was Arris and it worked for 1 year flawlessly. I also got a good price on the SBG10 and the ratio of 1 star to 5 star reviews was good.
The install required me to register on-line via my mobile phone or call Comcast to activate the modem, it did not just come up so I could gain internet access. Once I did register and get on-line I tried several speed test sites. The SBG10 did not show any difference in latency or download/upload speeds that what the Comcast modem did. I have periodically checked different times and days, so far it is working perfectly.

I have had the unit for just a week so we will see how long it lasts, but so far it has been great.

AS AN ADDED NOTE: I have noticed a number of negative reviews that were for different models of Arris products than what I reviewed. Those "low star" ratings are mixed together across all Arris products so it is misleading. A good product has the same rating as a poor product because they have the same manufacturer and general function.

It would be more helpful if in the headline reviewers start adding the exact model they purchased, if Amazon can not adjust their system. It is like saying all Fords are junk because of the bad views of the Edsel. Just an additional thought on reviews.

My Old Man Shills tell us It works with Xfinity & faster & USES A FRACTION of "data usage" (now 3 months).

I called Comcast to double-check this modem and model will work with Comcast. "Yes". Only concern is it new? They can't take a previous customer off that internet acct to activate modem without that user calling in and going through closing process. Buy New Only! Within 10 minutes it was going. Took rented modem into Comcast the next morning. They said call in (or Chat) to have the modem activated with specifics on the account. Did that through chat. It took 5 minutes and now on Xfinity acct can see the exact modem and you can do things with it through Xfinity.com.

Saved me money! My laziness was costing me money. Xfinity/Comcast fees go up whenever the wind changes direction and I finally had to get my own modem. Called my ISP and had the signal sent. Followed the directions that came with the router and changed the password and network name and now I have internet. I was dreading changing the WiFi on all of my gadgets, but at $13/month rental, I could no longer wait. The old modem was dropping signal randomly and so I could go get another or just buy a modem already. This one takes up little space. Broadcasts pretty good. No issues setting it up. Should’ve done this yesterday!

XFINITY raised the rental rate for their equipment from $10 to $13 so i decided to just buy my own router. After lots of research I concluded the Arris SBG10 was the best option. I have the 250mbps tier package and so far this modem/router works perfect. The only issue I had was with the setup on an iPhone. It didn’t work with iPhone but it worked like a breeze with an android phone. It took less than 5 minutes after using the android for the set up process. I did it all online without having to call or chat with support. I also did a speed test with the XFINITY provided modem and the ARRIS modem (picture attached) and the 2.4G network was better on the arris than with the xfinity provided modem and the 5G network was practically the same. The price of this modem with a 4 year warranty is STILL cheaper than renting a modem from XFINITY for only 1 year. I’ve had them for 4, I should’ve bought my own compatible modem a long time ago. I would definitely recommend this to any XFINITY customer looking to save $156/yr in rental fees.

I was skeptical at first. It took me 5 minutes to set up. It was fully operational. It took me longer to talk to Comcast than it took me to install. After Comcast activated their signal, the installation was complete. I estimate my saving in 1 year to be $156.00 paying for itself and saving me money. I would definitely recommend this item for your home. The Best Buy Yet

Okay folks, I reordered this item since the first one was a DUD (see original post below) and, to be fair, I'm giving a revised review since, once I got it working, it's great! Easy to set up and having a gateway vs a modem and router is much easier. It was also a GREAT feeling to take an armload of equipment back to Cox Cable and save almost $100/mo on tv. We are using the gateway to stream our TV services through Hulu/YouTube TV (still deciding) which to keep. This gateway runs 4 streams seamlessly. Two HD tv's and two smart phones. No buffering, no blackouts, no delays. I would, at this point, revise to 4 stars (only reason I don't go 5 is because the "quick start" instructions are written in a confusing manner regarding what order to hook up and what order to contact your cable provider. That chewed up some time on the phone with both Arris and Cox, but once connected, no issues.

Original Review: Mine did not even power on! Arris customer service tech spent an hour running me through hoops because he thought I meant it would not "connect" rather than power on. I finally asked AGAIN if this (spanish/indian) rep understood that it had no POWER? Response?...."oh". Very disappointed. Would not recommend.

This router is great. I previously had purchased an Arris several years ago but as the internet speed has doubled since that time I wasn’t getting the full speed out of it as what was available to me. I took this out of the box, plugged in and screwed in the cable. If you have never owned a router there is nothing you can really mess up. I gave comcast a call and told them that I had purchased a new router. I provided the tech the required numbers and information and he set up over the phone. Piece of cake. Once I had it hooked to my iPad I simply located the router under my settings and entered the password. The password is preset so it was a breeze to enter it under the correct WiFi name. The thing I like about having a private router is that the password, which is the security key, is located right on the device. I figured that I couldn’t think up one any better than what they had on the device. I also anticipated that if I would forget my password I wouldn’t have to go through a hassle. I could simply go to my router and look up the security key. If you want to you can create your own user name and password. I just couldn’t be bothered. When I got online I could not believe the increased speed that I got from the device. It had doubled and was lightning fast. I love it. Simple to set up, simple to use and great to have no fees to pay to walk away with nothing. No matter where I move to I can bring my router along with me. The cost of the router compared to the cost of rental fees makes it so that you pay for it within 8 months and then it is yours. I like Arris products and so stuck with them.

I wasnt really sure about this untill i got it.i had to call tecnical support but no big deal.got it installed and my internet is wayyy better.i use to get 50 mbps now i got more than 100mbps.worth it tbh.

My Old Fellow K. Chan tell us Stable Internet, Small Footprint, Works Flawlessly.

After struggling with spotty internet for several weeks, being told from Comcast that our service lines were not being worked on or suffering outages, and having our cables checked, I realized that the $200 modem/router combo we bought last year was the culprit of our internet woes. Why I didn’t suspect our router first...it’s a $200 router for cryin’ out loud! Sadly, that stupid router was the problem and was long out of return period, just out of warranty period, and I really couldn’t be bothered with repairing it. The Arris Surfboard was half the cost, but worked great - if not better - than our old router/modem. Setup was straightforward and easy - I was able to setup my new router without having to call Comcast even (you can active a new router by plugging in a computer via Ethernet cable and going directly to Comcast’s site - it will load). The internet has been flawless and the unit has two channels (2.5 ghz & 5.0 ghz) so I am able to split up devices in the house depending on location and speed requirements. We have at least 17 devices on the WiFi, and they all run flawlessly. There are two slots to have Ethernet wired items, if you so choose, as well. You can keep track of the devices on your WiFi via app, locate suspicious devices getting on your WiFi, and even run speed tests from various rooms in your home. The unit has a small footprint, operates silently, and keeps our internet running. Overall, if you don’t want to pay for modem/router rental fees, or need a small reliable modem/router combo, this is a good one to consider.

My Fellow Brian P. experience 16 Channels won't necessarily get you all your ISP's rated speed.

When the WOW! technician came out to install their internet, he told me the Arris 8-channel modem router I had would only get me half the rated speed of 100 mbps, but a 16-channel would get me all or most of the 100 mbps, but this 16-channel modem is getting me about 55 mbps, whereas the 8-channel Arris I returned was giving me 48 mbps, not much less, so I'm disappointed, but I don't blame the new Arris modem.
